Thousands of people took to the streets in Valencia. The protests are a response to how regional authorities handled the devastating floods.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Reuters.
During the latest demonstration due to the floods, protesters filled the center of Valencia, demanding the resignation of regional government leader Carlos Mason and chanting "Murderers!".
"Our hands are stained with dirt, yours with blood," reads one of the banners.
0 1 2In a show of protest, some demonstrators threw dirty boots at the council building.
Residents of the affected areas accuse Mason of sounding the alarm too late, at 8:00 PM on October 29, when water had already flooded many nearby towns and villages.
The Valencia leader stated that he would have raised the alarm earlier if authorities had been notified of the severity of the situation by the official water monitoring agency.
It is noteworthy that the recent floods claimed the lives of over 220 people during one of the most devastating natural disasters in Europe in a decade.
Recall that we previously reported that in Spain, an angry crowd hurled mud at the monarchs in the epicenter of the flooding. Locals expressed dissatisfaction that representatives of the authorities arrived for an official visit only six days after the tragedy, criticizing officials for the delay in providing assistance to the victims.
We also reported that the death toll from the flooding in Spain continues to rise. Local services are working to mitigate the aftermath of the bad weather.
