The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has issued its forecast for the coldest month of the year.

In January 2025, the average monthly air temperature in Ukraine is expected to range from -0 to -3 degrees Celsius, which is 1.5 to 2 degrees above the norm. In Transcarpathia, Crimea, Odessa, and Kherson regions, temperatures will be around 0 to 2 degrees Celsius.

This information is reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing a forecast published on the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center website.

Thus, January will be colder than December, where the average temperature ranges from -4 degrees to +2 degrees Celsius.

According to meteorologists' predictions, the monthly precipitation is expected to be between 32-79 mm, which is within the norm.

Climate Characteristics of January

Long-term observational data indicate that the average monthly air temperature in January is between -0 to -6 degrees Celsius, while in Crimea it ranges from -1 degree to +4 degrees Celsius.

The absolute minimum air temperature can drop to -23 to -37 degrees Celsius, with some areas in Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, and Sumy regions, as well as in the Carpathians, experiencing -38 to -39 degrees. In Cherkasy and Luhansk regions, temperatures may reach -40 to -41.9 degrees Celsius, while the southern part of Crimea may see -13 to -22 degrees Celsius.

The absolute maximum air temperature can reach +10 to +18 degrees Celsius, with Crimea possibly seeing up to +21 degrees. In Chernihiv, Sumy regions, and the highlands of the Carpathians, temperatures may reach +8 to +9 degrees Celsius.

The average monthly precipitation is expected to be between 26-55 mm, with Transcarpathia seeing up to 89 mm, and in the Carpathians and southern Crimea, it may reach up to 125 mm.

Recall that meteorological winter arrived in Kyiv five days earlier than usual, on November 24. The earliest winter in Kyiv arrived on October 20 in 1920, while the latest was on December 29 in 2015. In the 2019-2020 period, meteorological winter did not occur.

According to meteorologists' forecasts, Europe is expecting the coldest winter since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
