A new motorized brigade has been established in Poland. It will be stationed in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, near the border with Russia.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine with a link to the Polish Ministry of National Defense.

"The 16th Motorized Brigade is the youngest military unit within the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division. Formation began in the spring of 2024. Over 600 soldiers have arrived here in just 11 months," the statement reads.

It is noted that the brigade will become the largest military unit in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, with several thousand soldiers serving in its ranks. The brigade's armament primarily consists of Rosomak wheeled armored personnel carriers, as well as K2 tanks and Poprad self-propelled anti-aircraft systems.

It is worth mentioning that the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship borders the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation to the north.

Poland Strengthens Its Border

It should be noted that tensions in Poland's relations with Russia and Belarus have increased following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In particular, Warsaw accuses Minsk and Moscow of deliberately controlling migrant flows to exert pressure on the EU.

For this reason, Poland has initiated the "Eastern Shield" project, which aims to strengthen the border with Russia and Belarus. The Polish government has allocated 10 billion zlotys for this initiative.

Additionally, the announcement of the construction of fortifications along the border with Russia was made on November 1. The project is expected to be completed by 2028.
