The Ukrainian defense forces have destroyed a storage facility for thermobaric munitions belonging to Russian invaders. This event took place on the night of February 28 in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, the Russian storage site was located near Selidovo.
"Additionally, strikes were carried out against three other significant targets of the Russian occupiers. Specifically, the Ilsky Oil Refinery (Krasnodar Krai, Russia), which is involved in supporting the Russian occupation army," the report stated.
The results of the strikes are currently being confirmed.
Selidovo is a city in Ukraine, serving as the administrative center of the Selidivska city community in the Pokrovsk district of the Donetsk region. For more details about the city, read the material from RBK-Ukraine.
Thermobaric munitions are a type of explosive weapon that uses oxygen from the surrounding environment to create a powerful explosion with high temperatures. They consist of a fuel-air mixture that ignites after being dispersed in the air, generating a strong shockwave with prolonged thermal effects.
These munitions have significantly greater destructive power than conventional high-explosive shells and can affect the enemy even in well-fortified shelters.
They create a vacuum effect, which can lead to the rupture of lungs and internal organs of individuals within the impact zone. Additionally, the high explosion temperature can cause widespread fires and demolish buildings, equipment, and other shelters. Due to their brutality and indifference to civilian populations, thermobaric weapons raise serious concerns within the international community.
According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the enemy has suffered losses of over 874,000 personnel. Just in the past day, the Russian losses amounted to 1,060 occupiers.
