The Russian Federation has fully transitioned to a military economy, making it the greatest threat to Europe's security.
As reported by RBK-Ukraine, this was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, according to Tagesschau.
He noted that the military threat from Russia is currently increasing.
"Russia has completely shifted to a military economy and supplies the army with between 1,000 and 1,500 tanks annually. This is roughly twice as many as the five largest European countries combined," Pistorius stated.
The German Minister of Defense believes it is clear to everyone that "Russia poses the greatest threat to our security, and it will remain so in the foreseeable future."
Russia is gradually restructuring its economy into a military format due to the full-scale war in Ukraine. This process involves prioritizing funding for the defense sector, expanding military production, and increasing state control over strategic enterprises.
In 2023, defense spending accounted for about a third of the Russian federal budget. Funding is directed not only towards equipment but also towards recruiting personnel, including through private military companies.
The shift to a military economy is intensifying pressure on the Russian economy, reducing investment attractiveness and the standard of living for the population. Despite this, the Kremlin continues to bolster resources to sustain the war, posing a threat to regional security and further escalation of the conflict.
At the same time, the EU's special representative for sanctions, David O'Sullivan, stated that sanctions have a significant impact on Russia, and over time, this will become increasingly evident. He mentioned that Putin has been forced to "consume" the Russian economy.
