A man was detained in Kyiv who, at the behest of Russian special services, attempted to organize a terrorist act against law enforcement. He set up an explosive device with a "tripwire" in a rented apartment in Pechersk and, simulating a case of domestic violence, called the police.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the press service of the National Police.

The police received a call about a woman being beaten by her boyfriend. During the phone call, the "victim" indicated that she had locked herself in the bathroom, leaving the apartment door open. However, upon entering the premises, the officers discovered the explosive device. Reacting to the danger, they vacated the apartment just before the grenade detonated.

The perpetrator was arrested at his residence in the Kyiv region. He turned out to be a 43-year-old man with a criminal background.

According to the investigation, he was recruited via messenger by enemy intelligence agencies. The man had previously rented an apartment, equipped it with surveillance cameras, and prepared explosives. The call to the police was staged using a female voice to lure the officers into a trap.

After committing the act, the man hid at home, where he was apprehended by SBU and police officers. For his actions, he was promised a significant financial reward, but he never received any money.

The detained individual is now suspected of committing a terrorist act under part 2 of article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
