Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine apprehended two agents of the Russian Federation in Rivne. They were planning a terrorist attack near the district police department building.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the SBU on Telegram.

"The Security Service prevented a terrorist attack in the center of Rivne. As a result of a special operation, two agents of the Russian special services were detained, who were preparing an explosion near the district police department," the SBU stated in their message.

Law enforcement clarified that the two men were supposed to leave a homemade explosive device disguised in a bag near the police building.

At the time of planting the explosive, they planned to detonate it using a call to a mobile phone connected to the device. The attack was intended to occur when many law enforcement officers were near the police building, while the agents were still close to the explosive device.

"In this way, the Russians planned to kill the maximum number of police officers and ordinary citizens while simultaneously eliminating the perpetrators of the attack as 'unnecessary' witnesses," the SBU explained.

However, law enforcement managed to expose the Russian agents in advance. They were detained at the moment they attempted to plant the explosives near the police building. A bag containing a homemade explosive device and additional means of covert surveillance, which were accessible to Russian special services, was confiscated from them.

According to the SBU, the detainees turned out to be two 19-year-old guys who wanted to "make quick money." After arriving in Rivne, they received geolocation coordinates of the hideout where the explosive device was located from the occupiers.

The perpetrators are expected to be charged with an attempt to commit a terrorist attack. They face up to 12 years in prison with property confiscation.
