After Trump played a crucial role in the temporary cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, he aims to replicate that success on the Ukrainian front.

However, as Bloomberg points out, the situation in Ukraine is far more complex and less manageable.

"This week, Russia attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure, including underground gas storage, which it described as retaliation for Ukrainian strikes using missiles from the U.S. and the U.K., and after Ukraine targeted Russian energy assets," the article states.

Trump has promised to try to end the conflict, but the circumstances on the ground make such a possibility significantly more complicated. Russian forces are relentless in their offensive, while the Kremlin has set tough demands for any potential peace settlement. Putin, who already controls a substantial portion of Ukrainian territory, insists that Kyiv must no longer seek NATO membership.

"But that's not all. The Russian leader is also determined to severely restrict the Armed Forces of Ukraine and minimize its ties with the transatlantic alliance, leaving Kyiv with few options for defending against future attacks," Bloomberg writes.

As analysts note, Trump, who has always been skeptical about Ukraine's prospects for reclaiming occupied territories, supports the idea that Ukraine should not join NATO.

"As Trump prepares to take the oath on Monday, any further negotiations will be extremely challenging," the publication concludes.
