In the Lviv region, a military serviceman who had been absent without leave from his unit for over a year received a court sentence, reports Politeka.net.

He left his unit during mobilization, citing the need to care for his sick grandmother, as stated in the court ruling published in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.

According to the case materials, on January 13, 2022, the contract soldier left his military unit, which was temporarily stationed at the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security, without valid reasons. He was absent for more than a year and only voluntarily appeared at the prosecutor's office on April 27, 2023.

During the court hearing, the defendant admitted his guilt, expressed sincere remorse, and explained that his departure from the unit was due to urgent family circumstances, including the need to care for his sick grandmother. He requested the court to impose a sentence with probation considering his young age and personal characteristics, reports Politeka.

However, taking into account the defendant's remorse, his young age, and difficult family circumstances, the court decided to exempt him from serving his sentence, replacing it with a one-year probation period. The serviceman is required to comply with all conditions stipulated by the probation period, according to the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
