The complex epizootic situation in Ukraine continues, which may impact meat prices in 2025, reports Politeka.net.

According to the head of the State Consumer Service of Ukraine, Serhiy Tkachuk, last year Ukraine recorded 85 locations affected by African swine fever (ASF).

These diseases have not only affected the situation in Ukraine but have also become part of a global issue, with Europe witnessing 6,846 outbreaks of ASF last year. The highest number of cases were reported in Poland, Italy, Lithuania, and Germany.

The reduction in the pig population due to high mortality rates and the need to cull infected animals is creating a pork shortage, which, in turn, could lead to increased prices for this product, according to Polityka.

Analysts indicate that as of February 1, 2025, the pig population in Ukraine has decreased by 10% compared to the previous year. Regions affected by military actions, particularly Donetsk and Sumy, have seen a dramatic decline in their pig populations.

Analyst Maksym Hopka reassures consumers, stating that there are currently no risks to the stable supply of pork in the market. Despite the decrease in the pig population, there is still enough pork available to avoid sharp price fluctuations. However, if the ASF situation continues to worsen, pork prices may rise.
