The former deputy head of the district police department in the Lviv region has been fined for bribery.
This is stated in the court ruling.
According to the verdict, Andriy Maksymovych, while serving as the deputy head of the Zolochiv district police department, promised in February 2024 to close a criminal case in exchange for a bribe of $2,500 (approximately 94,000 UAH at the then-current exchange rate).
As detailed in the case materials, Maksymovych called a local resident and informed him that a vehicle registered to him had been spotted at the scene of a fight at a gas station near Zolochiv. He noted that the culprits of the fight were in the vehicle, and the incident was being investigated by his subordinates under the article concerning beatings and torture. For $2,000, Maksymovych promised to "hush up" the case, later increasing the amount to $2,500.
On February 1, 2024, at the "Ukrnafta" gas station, Andriy Maksymovych received the specified bribe, after which he was immediately detained.
The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) charged him with extortion of a bribe using his official position (part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code), which carries a penalty of 5 to 10 years of imprisonment and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions. However, the sentence was issued under a more lenient article, which provided for a fine.
On February 3, the court imposed a preventive measure of detention on Maksymovych with the right to post bail in the amount of 182,000 UAH. After paying the bail on February 5, he was released. During the trial, he expressed remorse and entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor.
Judge Roman Boryniak found Andriy Maksymovych guilty of abuse of influence in conspiracy (part 2 of Article 28, part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code) and imposed a fine of nearly 94,000 UAH, as well as returning his bail. The verdict can be appealed in the Lviv Court of Appeal.
