The average exchange rate of the dollar in Ukraine by the end of 2025 is likely to reach a record amount, corresponding to the figures included in the state budget calculations.
This was reported by the director of the Economic Discussion Club, Oleg Pendzin.
"What will the exchange rate be at the end of the year? It is likely to align with the macroeconomic forecast figures that are included in the state budget. The average annual exchange rate set in the budget is 45 UAH. So, if we recall basic school arithmetic, an average annual rate means that we will start the year at a rate of 42+, and end at a rate of 47.5 conditionally, approaching 48 – to achieve an average of 45+,” the economist explained.
He also noted that Ukrainians should not rush to buy foreign currency for savings, as investments in hryvnias remain more profitable.
"Today, I have 1 hryvnia in government bonds and 1 hryvnia in dollars. Over the year, the hryvnia in dollars will be worth 47.5, while the hryvnia in government bonds will yield me 15% income. Should I keep it in hryvnias considering it will increase by 15%?" Or should I keep it in dollars given that it will rise by 12%? Based on this, one should decide which option is better,” Pendzin clarified.
Pendzin emphasized that the dollar's value is merely a forecast, as is the final yield of government bonds.
