This is the first such event in the history of the United States, where a former president returns to office after a one-term hiatus.
Trump will become the second person in American history to achieve this. The first was Grover Cleveland, who returned to the White House after a break. He served as the President of the United States from 1885–1889 and 1893–1897.
Another significant aspect is that Donald Trump's inauguration could, for the first time in history, take place with flags at half-mast due to the 39th American president, Jimmy Carter. This fact is greatly displeasing to the newly elected president and he views it as a cunning revenge from his predecessors. Therefore, some experts believe that the Republican will attempt to amend the traditional 30-day mourning period so that the flags are raised on the day of the inauguration.
Traditionally, foreign leaders are not invited to the inauguration of the President of the United States – they are represented by ambassadors. However, Donald Trump has broken this custom this year by inviting Chinese leader Xi Jinping to the inauguration. However, Xi declined, as did Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
