According to the draft law, the restriction on the use of palm oil is intended to improve product quality and protect consumer health. It is part of the product.
Alla Kurilets, a member of the Ukrainian Gastroenterology Association, elaborated on the dangers of palm oil:
“Palm oil contains a high amount of saturated (useless fats) that can accumulate in liver cells, leading to fibrosis and eventually cirrhosis. Additionally, saturated fats negatively impact the cardiovascular system by disrupting cholesterol metabolism, which contributes to plaque formation that clogs blood vessels, increasing the risk of stroke.”
Yuriy Mirkeev, a representative of the State Consumer Service, notes that the ban on palm oil may affect the prices of certain products.
“Prices will increase not because market operators want to make excessive profits, but because they will be forced to use safe raw materials. As a result, we will receive safe food products, but, correspondingly, prices in this product segment will rise,” he explained.
