Russian oil tankers began sinking near the Kerch Strait on December 15. They went out to sea without adhering to navigation regulations.

As reported by RBK-Ukraine, this was stated by a representative of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Navy, Dmitry Pletenchuk, as noted by "Suspilne".

"The weather conditions at that time in the sea were unsuitable for them to be in open waters... As always, the Russians violated everything they could," said the spokesperson.

Pletenchuk mentioned that the storm season continues in the Black and Azov Seas. It is likely to end by mid-spring. This makes it difficult to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the accident, and it will be challenging for the Russians to retrieve the tankers from the water.

He also pointed out that such conditions impede the sorties of combat ships from the Black Sea Fleet and the use of cruise missiles.

Pletenchuk noted that the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" are old, with over 50 years of service.

"Of course, transferring Russian oil or other fuels is more important to them than adhering to the safety requirements for civilian shipping," emphasized Pletenchuk.

What preceded this

Recently, it became known that two Russian tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" would sink in the Kerch Strait. The cause of the accident was a severe storm.

It is also worth reminding that this is not the first instance of Russia losing one of its vessels.

Earlier, we reported that in March, a trawler named "Captain Lobanov" caught fire and subsequently sank in Russia.
