During the searches, crypto assets worth over 24 million hryvnias, nine luxury cars, and 24 plots of land totaling nearly 12 hectares were discovered.

In particular, the group blocked more than 4,000 information systems of a Norwegian company and encrypted the data contained within. Subsequently, the criminals demanded 2,500 bitcoins (348 million hryvnias) for decryption. The company's losses amounted to 8.9 million euros.

Moreover, the total losses inflicted by the hackers on companies in France, Germany, the USA, Norway, the Netherlands, and Canada exceeded 3 billion hryvnias.

In November 2023, the Ukrainian hacker was notified of suspicion. In September of this year, the pre-trial investigation was completed, and the indictment was sent to court. The perpetrator faces up to 12 years in prison with asset confiscation.

Exposing the Hackers

Recall that in May it became known that the Security Service of Ukraine, together with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, conducted an operation that uncovered an international group of hackers. They extorted money from Western companies.

Recently, three pro-Russian hackers were also arrested in Spain. They were orchestrating cyberattacks on NATO countries.
