In Sudan, rebels accidentally shot down a cargo plane that was flying from the UAE. It is likely that there were Russians on board.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the embassy of Russia in Sudan.
According to the embassy, a cargo plane was downed in western Sudan.
"On our part, the embassy is in contact with Sudanese authorities and is taking all necessary actions to clarify the circumstances of this incident. The situation is complicated by the fact that the crash site is located in the conflict-ridden Darfur," the statement said.
At the same time, several pro-Russian Telegram channels reported that the plane was mistakenly shot down by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces in Darfur. This region is currently witnessing ongoing battles between them and the regular army. Additionally, social media has seen the emergence of a video from the site of the possible crash.
Also, several Sudanese media outlets published photos of the pilots' documents from the crash site. It is evident that one of the pilots holds a Russian passport, while the other possesses an identification card from Airline Transport Incorporation FZC. This company is based in the UAE and is linked to Kyrgyzstan. The ID also states "Manas International Airport" - the main international airport in Kyrgyzstan.
Last year, information emerged that Russia would sign military cooperation agreements with six African countries.
At that time, Russians began sending free grain to Africa, likely stolen from occupied Ukrainian territories, which strengthened their influence on the continent. It is also known that Russia recruited residents of Africa to participate in the war in Ukraine.
