In Strasbourg, an evacuation was conducted for a train that was supposed to transport Members of the European Parliament to Brussels. The cause was an explosion.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Politico.
According to the publication, the evacuation took place almost immediately after the parliamentarians boarded the Eurostar train. An assistant to one of the MPs, Emmanuel Fulon, stated that he heard an explosion. Firefighters arrived at the scene.
"There was a technical incident with the train at Strasbourg station," the European Parliament's press service reported, without disclosing further details.
Meanwhile, the regional railway network TER Grand Est announced that train services in Strasbourg were suspended "due to smoke emanating from the train."
For their part, a Eurostar representative mentioned that the train did not depart for Brussels due to a "technical incident."
It's worth noting that the European Parliament typically organizes special trains for its members and staff between Brussels and Strasbourg, where its chambers are located.
Recall that earlier The European Parliament proposed lifting restrictions on Ukrainian strikes deep into Russia with transferred weapons.
The corresponding resolution was supported by 425 members. However, it's important to mention that such an initiative is merely advisory in nature and cannot compel EU countries to lift such restrictions for the Ukrainian military.
