In the Odessa region, two perpetrators were uncovered who promised to help a conscripted man avoid military service for a fee. They valued their services at 17 thousand dollars.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the press service of the Odessa region police.
According to law enforcement, a 51-year-old resident of the city of Yuzhne, who holds the position of authorized representative for anti-corruption activities at one of the enterprises in the Odessa district, along with a 58-year-old acquaintance from Odessa, organized a scheme to "buy out" from military registration.
The men promised their acquaintance, who was looking for a way to leave the country, to assist in removing him from military registration based on a fabricated health condition. To achieve this, they claimed they would "influence the right people" at the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, with whom they allegedly had connections.
Subsequently, they began to pressure the man, demanding an immediate transfer of funds and threatening that his legal situation could worsen if he refused.
Officers from Police Department No. 3 of the Odessa District Police No. 2, together with the SBU and under the guidance of the Dobroslav District Prosecutor's Office, conducted the arrest of the suspects.
One of them was apprehended during the money transfer, while the other was caught at his workplace. Both have been informed of their suspicion of extorting illegal benefits (part 3 of article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), which carries a penalty of up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
