In the Murmansk region of Russia, a freight train collided with the passenger train traveling from Murmansk to St. Petersburg. One of the trains derailed.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Russian Telegram channel "Ria.Новости".
According to reports from Russian sources, the accident occurred as the passenger train was arriving at one of the stations. Currently, traffic in that section has been halted.
Preliminary data indicates that there were 326 passengers on the passenger train at the time of the accident. At least one person has been reported injured. During the collision, three carriages overturned onto their sides.
The cause of the train collision was a malfunction of the freight train. Around three o'clock in the afternoon local time, its pantograph broke. The train was secured and left waiting for assistance.
However, after an hour, its brakes failed, and it reportedly rolled onto another track, where it collided with the passenger train.
Earlier, we reported on a train derailing near Belgorod, as stated by the press service of the South-East Railway of Russia. They claimed it happened "due to external interference in the operation of the railway transport." It was reported that an explosion occurred on September 10 at 23:17 on the section "Volokonovka - Novy Oskol," after which 11 allegedly "empty" wagons and the locomotive of the freight train derailed.
