В Мурманске прогремели взрывы рядом с главной морской базой Северного флота России.

In Russia, residents of Murmansk and Severomorsk, located 12 km away, reported hearing explosion sounds the day before. These could have occurred near the main naval base of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine, referencing the Telegram channel "Crimean Wind" and The Barents Observer.

According to "Crimean Wind," the explosions were heard last night. Locals claim that the shockwaves were felt several dozen kilometers away.

Additionally, one of the explosions was captured on video. Judging by the footage, the incident likely took place at one of the numerous military sites near the main naval base of the Northern Fleet of Russia in Severomorsk, as well as two military airfields.

Moreover, The Barents Observer identified that the military airfield "Severomorsk-1" is located 13 km from the filming site. Russian fighter jets, bombers, and a squadron of Ka-27 helicopters are stationed there.

At a distance of 11 km, there is an open weapons depot, while to the northwest of "Severomorsk-1," several installations with mobile surface-to-air missile systems and electronic warfare antennas are positioned.

Additionally, between Severomorsk and Murmansk lies the closed military airfield "Severomorsk-2," which began restoration in early 2024.

Based on the video, the explosion resembles the detonation of a large quantity of munitions.

It is worth noting that Severomorsk is situated 1900 km from the border with Ukraine and 100 km south of the "Olenya" airfield, which has already been targeted by Ukrainian drones.

What is known about the Russian base

The main naval base of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation is located in Murmansk, in the northwest of Russia. The base is equipped with modern infrastructure that enables it to service submarines, ships, and aviation. The Northern Fleet of Russia is considered one of the most powerful within the Russian Navy due to its ability to operate in harsh climatic conditions and provide nuclear deterrence.

This base serves as a crucial hub for projecting Russian power in the Arctic, where there is active competition for natural resources and control over new trade routes. It is important to note that the military potential of the base is supported not only by ships and submarines but also by modern air and anti-ship defense systems. Its proximity to vital maritime routes makes it a focal point of interest for other countries and a potential target for surveillance and international security analysis.

Recall that we previously reported that the Russian Navy is officially headed by the commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Alexander Moiseyev. He succeeded Nikolai Yevmenov in this position.

Attacks on the "Olenya" airfield

In July of this year, sources from RBK-Ukraine reported an attack by UAVs on an oil refinery and three Russian military airfields. Shortly thereafter, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine officially confirmed this information. The intelligence agency also disclosed that as a result of the strike on the "Olenya" airfield, two strategic bombers Tu-22M3 were damaged.
