Lithuania will enhance the security of its power lines with Poland. This comes ahead of the planned disconnection from the energy system shared with Russia and Belarus.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing LRT.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas stated that the government has approved a decision to provide additional physical protection for certain "critically important energy infrastructure facilities."

"We take this very seriously. However, modeled scenarios, even in various emergency situations, will not leave Lithuanian consumers without electricity," he said.

He noted that some of these measures will be confidential, while others will be restricted. Paluckas added that this concerns both cybersecurity and physical measures.

Specifically, the State Public Security Service will be used to protect key energy facilities, replacing the private security service that has been guarding these sites until now. It will take over the protection of these facilities starting January 15.

Earlier, RBK-Ukraine reported that Lithuania will disconnect power lines with Russia and Belarus. This will take place before February 2025.
