An agent of the Russian Federation has been detained in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. She turned out to be a former police officer who was directing strikes against the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing SBU.
"The Security Service has apprehended another agent of the Russian Federation in the Donetsk region. The perpetrator was relaying the locations of the Defense Forces to the invaders and was anticipating the occupation of Kramatorsk," the statement said.
The agent was a local pensioner, a former employee of the disbanded police. She operated for the enemy through a "connection," a long-time acquaintance who was also a former police officer.
"In 2014, he joined the terrorists of the so-called 'DPR,' and after the onset of the full-scale war, he became a commander of one of the reconnaissance assault brigades of the Russian armed forces," the SBU reported.
Following instructions from the Russians, the resident of Kramatorsk was leaking locations of fortified areas and firing positions of Ukrainian troops in the Kramatorsk direction to her "connection."
The enemy was primarily interested in the coordinates of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' rocket artillery, as well as the routes for fuel tanker deliveries to the front. To gather intelligence, the perpetrator drove around the area in her car, covertly documenting military sites.
She is currently in custody. She faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
Kramatorsk is a city in the Donetsk region that was under Russian occupation for several months in 2014. Since then, the SBU has regularly detained Russian agents in the city.
The Russian agency has intensified its activities following the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022. Since then, several Russian agents have been detained in Kramatorsk. For instance, earlier, the SBU detained a spotter for Russian special services. She was "targeting" Kramatorsk with Russian "Tornadoes."
Additionally, the SBU detained an agent who informed Russia about the consequences of a Russian strike on a café in Kramatorsk on June 27, 2023, when 12 people were killed. He received this task immediately after the airstrike on the city.
