The Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Herzi A-Levi, and the commander of the southern front responsible for Gaza, Yaron Finkelman, have announced their resignations.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing NEWSru.co.il.
According to media reports, the IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Herzi A-Levi, announced that he is submitting his resignation request effective March 6, 2025. He also stated that he acknowledges personal responsibility for the failure of the Israeli army on October 7, 2023.
"In the remaining time (in the position of Chief of Staff), I will complete the investigation and support the work of the Israel Defense Forces in addressing security issues," A-Levi's statement reads.
He mentioned that he has already sent the appropriate letters to the Minister of Defense and the Prime Minister of Israel.
Shortly after A-Levi's announcement, the commander of the IDF Southern Command, Major General Yaron Finkelman, also revealed his decision to resign.
However, he did not specify the reasons for this decision. At this moment, the exact date of his resignation remains unknown.
It is worth noting that the day before, the far-right Israeli party Otzma Yehudit exited the coalition in protest against the agreement with Hamas. As a result, the Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Minister of Heritage Amichai Eliyahu, and the Minister of the Negev, Galilee, and National Resilience Itzhak Wasserlauf resigned.
Recently, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on the release of hostages and a ceasefire.
