The Armed Forces of Ukraine have been conducting operations in the Kursk region for five months. This has compelled Russia to redeploy significant forces to that area.
This information comes from RBK-Ukraine citing the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, over the five months since the start of the Kursk operation, total enemy losses in this direction have exceeded 38,000, with approximately 15,000 being fatalities.
They also reported that the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began on August 6, 2024, marking another phase in the resistance against Russian aggression. For the first time in 11 years of war, combat operations have been shifted onto Russian territory.
The primary objective of the operation was to prevent enemy advances in the Sumy region and to create a "buffer zone." Additionally, it forced Russian occupiers to redirect considerable resources to the Kursk region, weakening their positions on other fronts.
"Russia was compelled to urgently seek assistance from North Korea, which sent nearly 12,000 of its soldiers to Russia. About 4,000 of them have already been eliminated, and some units have lost their combat capability," the General Staff reminded.
Ukrainian forces have destroyed:
During the operation, Ukrainian forces captured 860 Russian soldiers, significantly increasing the exchange fund. This allowed for the return of hundreds of Ukrainian defenders who were held in Russian prisons.
The operation aimed to weaken the enemy's combat capabilities and force them to redirect resources to defend their own territories. The defeat of military targets in Russia's border regions also increases pressure on the Kremlin, highlighting the vulnerability of its rear positions and its inability to protect its own infrastructure.
Recently, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia lost up to a battalion of North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region within two days.
