The new commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv has established an investigative department. This team includes representatives from each battalion where disappearances have been reported.

According to RBK-Ukraine, this was reported on Facebook by the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Military Personnel and Their Families, Olga Reshetilova.

"I worked for several days in the Donetsk region within combat military units on various issues. One of the main focuses was to clarify the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of servicemen from the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade. The families of the soldiers from the 155th brigade have not had proper communication with the unit for a long time," Reshetilova wrote.

According to her, the new brigade commander and his deputies created an investigative department, which includes representatives from each of the battalions that suffered losses.

"Investigators are essentially reconstructing events minute by minute during which communication with servicemen was lost, determining what measures were taken for evacuation, and analyzing intelligence reports to understand what might have happened to the missing comrades," the ombudsperson clarified.

In her opinion, this is a good example of a non-formal approach to conducting official investigations and a real effort to clarify circumstances that should be implemented in other military units. However, she believes that such investigative departments should be established not post-factum but in real-time.

"In the near future, families of the missing servicemen from the 155th brigade should be provided with comprehensive information about the situation concerning their relatives," she emphasized.

Scandal with the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade

Recently, statements regarding the improper formation and support of the newly established 155th mechanized brigade circulated online. It was reported that approximately 1700 servicemen from the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade had left service. Specifically, there were claims of soldiers fleeing from training in France.

In response, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, instructed to strengthen the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv. Additionally, he informed that law enforcement agencies are investigating cases of desertion and AWOL within the brigade. Meanwhile, the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mikhail Drapatiy has taken personal control of the situation.

It was also recently reported that the former commander of the 155th brigade, Dmitry Ryumshin, was detained.

Furthermore, the State Bureau of Investigation revealed that individuals previously evading conscription were included in the lists for training abroad for the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade in France. They paid for illegal border crossing.
