The Main Inspection of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine will investigate reports of abuse against servicemen in the 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as reported by the media.
This was announced by RBK-Ukraine citing a statement from Ukraine's Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov.
"Delays in investigations, nepotism, extortion, and abuse of servicemen are unacceptable in the third year of war. Therefore, by my order, the Main Inspection of the Ministry of Defense will immediately begin working to verify the facts presented in the article by 'Ukrainska Pravda' regarding the situation in the 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade," the minister noted.
He added that there are also plans to determine why the investigation into the scandal in the brigade by the Military Law Enforcement Service took so long.
Umerov emphasized that all those responsible must face punishment.
Additionally, as the Minister of Defense reminded, a draft law on a military ombudsman, which will focus on protecting the rights of servicemen and ensuring transparency in similar cases, will soon be presented by the ministry.
Recall that earlier 'Ukrainska Pravda' released material about the 211th Brigade. As journalists found out, soldiers in the brigade who consumed alcohol and refused to pay for "silencing" such facts were beaten.
In particular, one soldier who drank alcohol was tied to a wooden cross.
Against this backdrop, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi initiated an inspection of the 211th Brigade.
