The SBU has launched an investigation due to the alleged leak of a statement by Budanov.

The Security Service of Ukraine has initiated a criminal proceeding due to the alleged leak of a statement by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov.

This was reported by the press service of the SBU in a comment to RBK-Ukraine.

The Security Service noted that the criminal proceeding was opened based on the fact of the disclosure of information constituting a state secret by individuals who were directly entrusted with this information during a closed session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, marked as confidential.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing and is being conducted under part 2 of Article 328 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Rumors about "Budanov's statement"

Recall that earlier, media outlets reported that Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Ministry of Defense's Main Intelligence Directorate, allegedly stated during a closed meeting of parliament members and defense representatives that if "serious negotiations" do not take place before summer, there will be a threat to Ukraine's existence.

In response to the rumors, the Main Intelligence Directorate emphasized that such an alleged statement by Budanov is not true.

The intelligence agency also urged the media not to spread rumors or unverified and unofficially confirmed information, as this could harm the security of the state.
