Criminal proceedings have been initiated against five businessmen and former high-ranking officials who were added to the sanctions list yesterday, February 13.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Petro Poroshenko

In 2021, the fifth president of Ukraine was informed of suspicion regarding the conspiracy of a group of individuals to commit treason and assist terrorist organizations. In particular, former leader of the "Opposition Platform - For Life," Viktor Medvedchuk, was also reported as a suspect in this case.

Both are suspected of conspiring with other individuals and representatives of the highest political leadership of Russia from November 2014 to January 2015 to facilitate the so-called "LPR/DPR" in obtaining excessive profits exceeding 3 billion UAH from organized coal supplies from occupied territories.

The pre-trial investigation was completed back in 2022.

"Due to the abuse of their rights and delays in the process, prosecutors have filed a motion in court to limit the defense's access to the case materials until the end of March 2025," the Office of the Prosecutor General writes.

Viktor Medvedchuk

Medvedchuk is also accused in another case. He is charged with treason and violation of the laws and customs of war. The former people's deputy is accused of:

  • assisting Russian officials in the plundering of a Ukrainian oil and gas field in the area of the Black Sea continental shelf;
  • transmitting secret information about the location of a military unit to the enemy.

In particular, he facilitated the operation of an influence network aimed at shaping the necessary public opinion for Russia in Ukraine.

Igor Kolomoisky

The businessman is currently in custody. He is suspected of having, along with the former head of a bank branch, misappropriated more than 5.36 billion UAH of the financial institution's funds, joint stock company, and participants in the joint investment activity agreement.

In particular, they subsequently legalized nearly 4.1 billion UAH of income obtained through criminal means.

Furthermore, the businessman is also suspected of organizing the contract killing of the director of one of the legal companies due to his refusal to annul and recognize the decision of the general meeting of shareholders of the open joint-stock company as invalid.

Konstantin Zhevago

The actual owner of "Finance and Credit Bank," who is currently abroad, is suspected of organizing, in collusion with officials of the financial institution, the embezzlement of 113 million USD.

He is also a suspect in another case involving the creation of, and participation in, a criminal organization, embezzlement, and the legalization of property acquired through criminal means.

"According to the organized scheme, more than 608 million UAH were illegally allocated from the bank accounts and transferred to the accounts of non-resident companies controlled by members of the criminal organization. In fact, these funds were withdrawn from Ukraine and not returned to the bank," writes the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Gennady Bogolyubov

The businessman has been informed of suspicion regarding:

  • the illegal acquisition of another person's passport;
  • the organization of illegal transportation of a person across the state border of Ukraine.

"He is suspected of organizing his illegal crossing of the border with the involvement of a border guard. For this, the businessman used a Ukrainian citizen's passport that was lost in 2022, which was reported to the State Migration Service of Ukraine. The suspect is now wanted," adds the Office of the Prosecutor General.
