According to RBK-Ukraine's sources, law enforcement detained the head of KRAIL due to his support for the activities of a Russian online casino in Ukraine.
During the search, a substance resembling a narcotic was found in the possession of the detainee.
This spring, the issue of online casinos gained significant attention due to scandals regarding the lack of restrictions on their operations. Petitions also called for access limitations.
Later, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the issue of online casinos in Ukraine would be brought up at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
By mid-April, the NSDC adopted a series of decisions on gambling, instructing the Cabinet of Ministers to develop a procedure to restrict all forms of gambling advertising featuring the symbols of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, prohibit multiple account registrations for a single player, and more.
Recently, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law to enhance control over the gambling market, which includes the dissolution of KRAIL. A new authorized body will be established in its place, and a ministry will be designated to formulate policies in the gambling and lottery sectors.
