Massive wildfires have engulfed homes in the suburbs of Los Angeles. The fires may have been sparked by fireworks set off by locals on New Year's Eve.
This information comes from RBK-Ukraine citing Washington Post.
According to the publication, an analysis of photographs, videos, satellite images, and radio communications, along with interviews with witnesses, indicates that the fire in Palisades started in an area where firefighters had already extinguished flames six days prior.
Law enforcement conducted an investigation of the area and interrogated locals in search of evidence regarding the cause of the fire.
The analysis conducted by the publication shows that the new fire ignited near the previous one.
Officials stated that the investigation is being handled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). In a statement, an ATF representative said, "Certified ATF fire investigators conducted an initial examination of the area, but the investigation has not yet begun." In response to a question about re-ignition as a possible cause, representatives from LAFD stated, "This is an ongoing, active investigation, and the team will not comment on the ongoing inquiry."
However, media reports indicate that smoke began in the Temescal Ridge area of the Santa Monica Mountains, where the previous fire occurred, which residents believe was caused by fireworks.
The Post identified the burn scar from New Year's Eve using false-color satellite images taken before and after the fire. This method tracks changes in vegetation on satellite images. Healthy vegetation appears red, while scorched earth ranges from blue to brown.
It is worth noting that on January 7, six fires broke out in different areas of Los Angeles. They rapidly spread over more than 14,500 hectares, which is 2.5 times the size of Manhattan.
The following day, a state of emergency was declared in California, and U.S. President Joe Biden canceled his visit to Italy.
It was reported that the disaster claimed the lives of at least 11 people and damaged or destroyed 10,000 buildings. Additionally, 13 people are considered missing.
It is also important to note that enemy propaganda is spreading fake videos about alleged mansions of Ukrainian military personnel in the U.S. Ukraine has denied these claims, labeling them as falsehoods aimed at discrediting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
