Kiev police raided a club over the playing of songs in Russian.

The police are conducting an investigation due to an incident at a club in Kyiv. Songs in the Russian language were performed there.

This is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Kyiv police.

"Today (February 23, - ed.) a video was published on Telegram channels featuring performances of songs in Russian at one of the establishments in the Holosiivskyi district," the statement reads.

Currently, police officers and an investigative group are present at the scene, engaging with the club's management and staff.

"The incident has been registered in the Unified Journal of Statements and Reports of the Holosiivskyi police department," law enforcement officials say.

An investigation is currently underway, during which law enforcement is preparing an appeal to the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language for appropriate action.

It is worth noting that in 2022, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law prohibiting the public performance of Russian music. Additionally, in the summer of 2024, the Verkhovna Rada proposed new penalties for Russian music.

Recently, a proposal appeared on the electronic petition portal to the Cabinet of Ministers to block songs in Russian on streaming platforms in Ukraine. Many citizens have already joined the initiative.
