The police have announced suspicions against five individuals involved in the case of the amusement ride accident in Kyiv that occurred in July, resulting in the death of a young man.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Kyiv police.

Based on the collected evidence, investigators from the Pechersk police department, under the procedural guidance of the Pechersk district prosecutor's office, have brought suspicions against five individuals whose actions or inactions led to the tragedy.

"Among the suspects are the amusement ride director, the entrepreneur who rented it, the ride designer, a technical inspection expert, and a former employee of the municipal enterprise of the Kyiv City State Administration," the agency stated.

Investigation Details

The police established that in 2020, the Department of Economics and Investments of the Kyiv City Council conducted a competition for "The Construction of a Cable Car Attraction across the Dnipro River from the Arch of Friendship of Peoples to Trukhaniv Island," which was won by a local company that subsequently leased the attraction to another entrepreneur after it was put into operation.

However, the investigation found that from the moment the project documentation was developed and the necessary permits were obtained, several miscalculations were made by the involved parties.

In particular, the secured steel cable was deemed unusable due to non-compliance with technical specifications and intended purpose. Furthermore, the attraction posed a high degree of risk and was subject to mandatory emergency rescue servicing.

Amusement Ride Accident in Kyiv

In July, while descending from the tower of the cable car attraction over the Dnipro River in Kyiv, the cable snapped, causing a 20-year-old man to fall into the water and drown.

Almost immediately, the prosecutor's office called on witnesses and citizens to share evidence regarding the cable's breakage at the Kyiv attraction, which resulted in the young man's death.

At that time, investigators initiated criminal proceedings under two articles - violation of safety rules during work with increased danger, resulting in a person's death, and official negligence.
