On the night of Monday, February 3, drones from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and Special Operations Forces (SSO) attacked the Volgograd Oil Refinery and the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant in Russia.
According to sources from RBK-Ukraine, this information was provided by SBU insiders.
Sources reported that the drones targeted the flare system, primary processing units No. 2 and No. 3, as well as technological installations No. 20 and No. 21 at the Volgograd plant.
The Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant suffered damage to its gas condensate processing complex. A fire is ongoing there, operations at the plant have been halted, and workers have been evacuated.
It is important to note that both affected facilities are major fuel suppliers for the Russian military. The Volgograd Oil Refinery processes nearly 6% of all crude oil in Russia, while the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant is one of the key energy facilities in Russia, processing 12 billion cubic meters of gas condensate annually.
"This marks the fifth successful special operation of the SBU this year targeting oil refineries and other Russian enterprises that support the defense industry and produce fuel for the Russian army. The drone sanction policy proves its effectiveness," remarked an informed source in the SBU.
The General Staff noted that the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine, in coordination with other components of the Defense Forces, struck the Volgograd Oil Refinery, "Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka," and the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant on the night of February 3.
Preliminary reports indicate that primary processing units were damaged at the plant in the Volgograd region. A fire continues at the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant, and operations at the facility have been halted.
The results of the strike and the extent of the damage are currently being clarified.
The Special Operations Forces clarified that the authorities of the Volgograd region, located more than 500 kilometers from the territory controlled by the Ukrainian army, declared a "red" level of danger and closed the "Volgograd" airport following dozens of explosions.
They also noted that the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant is one of Russia's key energy enterprises, processing 12 billion cubic meters of gas condensate annually.
"Ukrainian drones, which traveled about 1,000 kilometers, damaged the gas condensate processing complex. The fire at this strategically important facility for the enemy's army and economy is still ongoing. Operations at the plant have been halted," the statement said.
Earlier, we reported that on the night of February 3, the territory of the Russian Federation was again subjected to a drone attack. The gas processing plant near Astrakhan was hit.
Additionally, on the night of February 3, drones attacked an oil refinery owned by "Lukoil" in Russian Volgograd.
