The cargo plane Il-76 was recently shot down in Sudan. Among the wreckage, documents belonging to a Russian national involved in arms sales in the Republic of Congo were found.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Reuters.
Documents of one of the deceased belonged to the chief engineer of Airline Transport Incorporation FZC, 67-year-old Viktor Granov.
According to Reuters, he was in charge of two airlines that supplied arms to Congo. He is also allegedly connected to arms dealer Viktor Bout, who received a 25-year prison sentence for illegal arms trafficking and supporting terrorism.
Granov's daughter and ex-wife did not respond to numerous requests for comments. No comment could be obtained from Bout.
The agency also reports that the downed Il-76 may have been used to drop weapons, shells, and supplies in the city of El Fasher. The exact number of casualties or fatalities is unknown, but typically the Il-76 crew consists of 5 members.
