Kovalenko on the strike against "Engels": Russia has been stockpiling missiles and fuel there since summer.

Коваленко о нападении на "Энгельс": Россия с лета накапливала ракеты и топливо на этой базе.

The oil depot near the "Engels" airfield is one of the key facilities for the strategic aviation needs of the Russian Federation. It stores fuel for aircraft that strike targets in Ukraine.

As reported by RBK-Ukraine, this was stated by the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation (CCD), Andrei Kovalenko, during a telethon.

"All these aircraft that carry out combat sorties and subsequent strikes on Ukrainian territory rely on the supplies (at the oil depot - ed.). Accordingly, Russia has been preparing a strategy for strikes on Ukrainian energy and infrastructure since summer. This strategy is designed to last throughout the winter. Missile reserves have been created at strategic aviation airfields, as well as fuel reserves for both training and combat flights," Kovalenko explained.

For this reason, he believes that this oil depot is crucial for the Russians. He reminded that there had already been an attack on it before, and that fire at the oil refinery could not be extinguished for 5 days.

"It's impossible to extinguish it. It has to burn out. Further spreading of flames to other tanks is also possible. Consequently, the losses will be assessed via satellites in a few days. When it becomes clear how many tanks with fuel and how many fuel storage facilities are currently on fire. But this is significant damage to Russian logistics, particularly for Russian aviation," he emphasized.

Strike on the oil depot in Engels

Earlier, we reported that on January 8, explosions rocked the Russian city of Engels. Local authorities and residents spoke of drone attacks and the operation of air defense systems, which led to a fire at the oil depot in the Engels area.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on the oil depot in Engels. The storage facility for petroleum products "Kombinat Kristall" was attacked. This oil depot supplied fuel to the military airfield "Engels-2".

According to the American Institute for the Study of War, the fire at the oil depot in Engels destroyed three fuel tanks containing 120,000 cubic meters of fuel and damaged six additional fuel storage tanks.

Today, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck again at the infrastructure of the Russian military airfield "Engels-2". The airfield houses Tu-95MS and Tu-160 aircraft from the 22nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Division of the Russian Federation.

It is worth noting that on the night of January 14, several regions of Russia were attacked by drones. For more details, read the article from RBK-Ukraine.
