On Sunday, January 26th, two temperature records were set in Kyiv. These are the first maximums recorded since the beginning of 2025.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Central Geophysical Observatory.
According to meteorologists, the maximum air temperature reached 7.4 degrees, which is 0.5 degrees higher than the previous record for this day set in 2021.
The average daily temperature turned out to be the highest recorded for this day and was 4.7 degrees, exceeding the previous records from 1902 and 1999 by 1.4 degrees, and surpassing the climate norm by 9.7 degrees.
"According to long-term statistics, such air temperature corresponds to March 29," the report states.
According to the Central Geophysical Observatory, 2024 was the warmest year in the capital since observations began. The average annual temperature for 2024 in the capital was 11.4 degrees, which is 2.4 degrees above the climate norm. It became the warmest year in the capital on record.
In total, 52 temperature records were set in Kyiv in 2024, with the most occurring in April - 13 and July - 14.
It is worth noting that meteorological winter arrived in Kyiv five days earlier than usual on November 24. The earliest winter arrived in Kyiv on October 20, 1920, while the latest was on December 29, 2015. During the 2019-2020 period, meteorological winter did not occur at all.
