The Russian army is attempting to establish a foothold in the villages near the city of Pokrovsk and push further. In this way, the Russians aim to partially encircle the city.
As reported by RBK-Ukraine, this was stated by the spokesperson of the operational-strategic group of troops "Khortytsia," Viktor Trehubov, during a national telethon.
"There are several small settlements near Pokrovsk. These include Yelyzavetivka, Lisovka, Zelenoe, Luch, Novyi Trud, etc. The Russians are trying to cling to every house there and advance further," Trehubov explained.
He noted that the Russians are not advancing directly on Pokrovsk itself. However, they are attempting to partially encircle it and likely reach the forest belt near the road, which is a route for some supplies to the city.
"I wouldn't say that they have succeeded as of now, but they are making a significant effort and have substantial resources. Primarily, these resources are human, technical, and logistical," the spokesperson stated.
It is worth mentioning that Russia continues to concentrate forces for attacks in the Pokrovsk direction. On this front, Ukrainian defenders have halted 77 offensive actions by the aggressor.
Earlier, Trehubov revealed that the enemy wants to trap the city "in pincers," but they have not succeeded.
At the same time, the American Institute for the Study of War noted that the encirclement of Pokrovsk is one of the key strategic objectives of the Russian occupiers.
