Fierce urban battles are currently taking place in Kurakhovo between Russian forces and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The city is in a state of near ruin.

This was stated by the representative of the OSUV "Khortytsia," Viktor Trehubov, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing "Suspilne.Donbas."

Background

This morning, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the supposed "liberation" of the Ukrainian city of Kurakhovo, which is the largest settlement in the southwestern part of the Donetsk region.

What the Armed Forces of Ukraine Say

"It is impossible to analyze the area of the city by percentages during the fighting. However, I can note that as of this morning, battles were ongoing within its limits, so the enemy's claims of capturing the city are clearly premature," Trehubov explained.

At the same time, this morning, the OSUV "Khortytsia" reported that the Russian army is conducting assault operations within the urban area of Kurakhovo. Efforts to identify and eliminate enemy assault groups are still ongoing there.

Situation in Kurakhovo

It should be noted that recently there were reports on social media about the alleged encirclement of Ukrainian troops in the areas of the settlements of Uspenivka and Trudove near Kurakhovo. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied this information, stating that the troops had been withdrawn.

We also reported that by using aviation, the occupiers attempted to advance near the settlements of Kurakhovo.

Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that in November and December, Russian losses at the front were record-high, and the Pokrovsk and Kurakhovo directions remain the most "heated."
