The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov, has invented a new threat for his country. This concerns the "Dark Typhon" system, which reportedly has a firing range of up to 2400 kilometers.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Defense Express.
Today, the Russian Ministry of Defense held a briefing for military attachés accredited in Moscow. The main "speaker" at this event was the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov.
During his speech, he traditionally appealed to the propaganda theses that the Kremlin uses to justify its aggression against Ukraine.
It was during this speech that Gerasimov claimed there was an alleged threat to Russia from the nonexistent Western missile system "Dark Typhon." However, the Russian public received this information with mixed reactions.
As noted by Defense Express, during the speech, the General Staff claimed there was a supposed "increased activity of NATO countries near the borders of Russia." As an example, he cited the deployment of the ground missile complex "Dark Typhon" in Denmark. This complex allegedly has a firing range of up to 2400 kilometers.
The nuance, however, is that none of the Western countries possess such a missile system. In fact, there is a significant issue regarding the availability of operational-tactical missile systems.
For this reason, Defense Express suggested that the phrase "Dark Typhon" emerged among Russians by combining elements from the names of two other missile systems - the hypersonic Dark Eagle and Typhon.
Dark Eagle is a ground-based hypersonic system for the U.S. Army, with each missile costing 41 million dollars, and the first successful test launch only took place in December 2024. It is reported to have a flight speed of 4.9 Mach and a firing range of up to 3100 kilometers. The weight of the warhead remains unknown, and the battery will consist of four launchers with a total salvo of eight missiles.
Typhon is a medium-range complex with a Mark 41 vertical launching system, which can utilize two types of missiles - Tomahawk cruise missiles in ground version and the SM-6 missile for surface-to-surface firing with a range of up to 460 kilometers.
The publication also noted that neither of these systems has been moved to Denmark or to any other European countries. As a result, Gerasimov's described "interpretation of events" was received with skepticism even by Russian propagandists.
Russian propaganda has begun spreading fakes about an alleged victory in the war against Ukraine.
In particular, recently at a "seminar" for vice-governors organized by Putin's administration, they discussed the "image of victory" for Russia and attitudes towards the war.
According to political expert Taras Zahorodniy, such statements from the Russians are primarily aimed at the Ukrainian audience to divert their attention.
Recently, there has been talk in Russia of a "victory" in 2025. The Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country promises dictator Vladimir Putin that they will achieve their goals of capturing four Ukrainian regions.
