Invaders are killing Ukrainian and foreign journalists who are reporting on the events at the front and in Ukraine during the war.
Since the onset of the full-scale war due to Russian aggression, more than 90 journalists have lost their lives.
Journalists killed by the Russian army while fulfilling their professional duties, as well as media workers who have fallen on the front lines as defenders.
According to Ekaterina Dyachuk, head of the monitoring department for freedom of speech at the Institute of Mass Information, Russians are deliberately killing journalists.
"When journalists were heading to the front to cover the war, the Russians specifically targeted them with drones. They fly over and see media with a 'press' sticker, and they shoot at them," Dyachuk reported.
According to monitoring by the Institute of Mass Information, Russia has committed at least 599 crimes against journalists in Ukraine over more than two years of war.
According to a list maintained and verified by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) together with the International Federation of Journalists, as of May 30, 2024, Russians have killed at least 91 media workers in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war, including cases involving foreign reporters.
Journalists believe that by killing media workers, operators, photographers, and everyone covering the war against Ukraine, the occupiers are doing so intentionally.
