Law enforcement officials apprehended the deputy chief doctor of the Central Medical and Social Expert Commission for accepting a bribe after assisting draft dodgers in obtaining disability status.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General.
The woman demanded $2,000 for her services. She faces up to eight years in prison.
Law enforcement officials detained the suspect while she was receiving the bribe. During searches, nearly $20,000 was found in her possession, along with documents related to disability applications, medical records, and other evidence of illegal activities.
The woman, who has repeatedly handled similar issues, promised to help a conscripted citizen obtain a II group disability status.
The suspect has been charged under Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for punishment for extortion and receiving a bribe with influence on the decision of an official. She may face imprisonment along with the confiscation of property.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a lawful manner through a court verdict.
