In Kryvyi Rih, unknown individuals shot at the grave of 26-year-old military serviceman Roman Yurchenko.
This was reported by Public with reference to the district police department. It was noted that the mother of the deceased, Natalia Yurchenko, discovered this act of vandalism on October 6, when she saw her son's damaged grave marker at the cemetery in the morning.
"I heard gunshots and went out to see. There was a military camouflage vehicle and a man in a turquoise sweater. From what I could hear, he was shooting a lot. We’ve never had anything like this; no one could even imagine that someone would deliberately shoot at a monument," – recounted a cemetery worker.
The mother has no idea who could have done this, as her son had no enemies. Roman Yurchenko joined the army in September 2022 after a brief training period in the United Kingdom. He was killed while carrying out a combat mission in the Donetsk region when their vehicle was hit by enemy fire.
Angelina Kradozhon, a representative of the Kryvyi Rih police, confirmed the incident, stating that investigators have begun an inquiry. An investigation is currently underway under part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for up to seven years of imprisonment.
Natalia Yurchenko mentioned that after the investigation concludes, she will restore her son's grave marker and hopes for justice.
