Belarus will conduct military exercises near the border with Ukraine. However, they do not pose a threat.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a representative of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Demchenko reminded that Belarus announced the exercises, which will continue until the end of January. According to him, these exercises do not pose a threat to Ukraine.
"In addition to regularly conducting various exercises on its territory, Belarus has also held such exercises in previous years with units of the Russian army. I should add that currently there are no Russian troops or strike groups in sufficient numbers on Belarusian territory, as the terrorist state has gradually pulled them back to its own territory, and has not introduced new ones as part of rotations. Therefore, it is Belarus that continues to escalate the situation, playing along with Russia," Demchenko explained.
Demchenko noted that there is no presence of Russian troops during the military exercises in Belarus, nor are exercises being conducted in close proximity to the Ukrainian border.
"We do not observe the presence of Russian troops there, and these exercises were planned with territorial defense units, reservists were to be involved. But in fact, they are not in immediate proximity to our border. I am not even sure that any equipment will be involved in these exercises. This is Belarus demonstrating that they are strengthening their defense capabilities, as the threat to them comes from Ukraine. They will continue to maintain this rhetoric," Demchenko stated.
Recently, we wrote that Belarus is increasing its military presence in the border area with Ukraine. However, according to CPI data, there is no threat of regular troops from Belarus invading Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine control the situation at the border.
We also reported that Belarus will hold military drills near the border with Ukraine. They will last until January 31.
